As if the fetish created by our lovely ladies wernt enough, our macho men or not macho(read SRK) have joined the bandwagon...to make our country fair and lovely!Yes guys, now u neednt sit and cry foul to God "What about us Lord...Pls make me fair...I want to look handsome!" Well just tune in to ur TV boys...Shahid,John,SRK and may be many others I missed to catch, have got us a wide range of fairness creams to choose from. There you go!
Shahids Ad shows him as a tanned guy who becomes "Fair anad handsome "( wonder if that is the correct catchline) after using his so n so fairness cream.
A latest ad in which they show a very very fair Genelia D'souza fed up with the "talk talk talk" of ineffective fairness cream, makes me laugh. Its hilarious!Do you want to look like a Geisha, Genilia dear?
Being look conscious is not bad at all.People should look after their skin,to present themselves well. The key should be a healthy skin and not a fair skin. Why not moisturisers and SPFs,which we Indians need in our extreme climate for a safe and healthy skin. And how effective are these fairness creams?Arnt these just a medium to make money in our fairness-obsessed society? All the stars who endorse them are already light skinned!
Whom to blame? In India, if you are fair-skinned you are beautiful.Check the matrimonial sites. Its common to find comments like "girl should be very fair".Its not just the guys who demand.A "fair" friend of mine gives her description of her dream guy as "first thing..he should be very fair".So what if she has turned down some 10 guys just because they wernt fair enough, even if they had a heartwarming personality. We have set up a standard, where being not fair-skinned is not fair at all.People are still taunted and pitied for being dark skinned.Sadly,Beauty is not defined in terms of ones personality, striking features, mannerisms or behaviours.
I have known young mothers cry when they see their new borns to be dark complexioned. How worse can we go?And to back them, we have our 'Stars'.Pity on u SRK...for endorsing "Fairness-is-the-only-way-to-be" and not just the cream.People look up to u as an Idol. When they must be getting this obsession among girls to an end,you have come up with a new revolution!
So all those people who have higher levels of melanin in their skins,be happy and proud to be in your skin. And dont lose your money and mind over those dangerous chemicals.
Be fair in your deeds people!Nothing else matters...nothing else stays!
